Event Details

This presentation will explore the history of fire insurance mapping in Alabama and provide tips for using fire insurance maps for historical and genealogical research. Methods for accessing the maps, both in-person and online, will be described, then the group will examine and discuss examples of maps from Foley and other Baldwin county communities.

Courtney Pinkard is the Reference Coordinator at the Alabama Department of Archives & History. She earned her Master’s in Library and Information Studies from The University of Alabama and held positions in public, academic, and law libraries prior to joining the Archives team. She began working for the Archives in November 2017 and was promoted to Coordinator in January 2020. Courtney discovered a passion for genealogy while in middle school and helping patrons connect to their family story is one of her favorite aspects of working in Reference.
